Aprehend, our premium treatment: Aprehend is the most advanced bed bug treatment we offer, and it is the treatment AstraHive is building its bed bug work around. It is a biological treatment built on a naturally occurring fungus. A bed bug walks through the barrier, picks up the spores, goes back to the colony, and spreads it to every bug it touches. It moves through the colony like a disease, reaching the bugs you will never see. The label states it is effective against pyrethroid-resistant bed bugs.
Very few companies in the GTA use it. The product is expensive, and applying it properly takes real knowledge and experience: where the barrier goes, how much to apply, and how to protect it afterwards. We apply it only with experienced, trained technicians and a dedicated Aprehend machine, with pesticide dust into wall voids and electrical outlets where bed bugs hide. Preparation is far simpler: strip the beds, move the bed and furniture 12 to 18 inches from the wall, and clear everything from under the bed. No need to empty dressers or closets. What to expect with Aprehend (our own experience, not from the product label; results vary): Weeks 1 and 2: you may not see a drop, or you may see more bed bugs as they leave their hiding places and eggs hatch. Week 3: roughly 50 to 55 percent fewer. Week 4: roughly 80 to 85 percent fewer. Weeks 5 to 6: roughly 90 to 95 percent fewer, and your follow-up falls in this window. It is normal to still see live bed bugs for up to 30 days; call us if you still see them after 30 days. Please do not wipe or clean the treated surfaces, because water takes the treatment off.
Most companies spray and leave. Spray alone cannot kill bed bug eggs.
